Wow! What a Year!

2019 has been a year of tremendous transition for Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care!

After 42 seasons of operations at our founders’ home, we have completed seven of a planned total of 13 buildings at our new property on Al Tahoe Blvd in South Lake Tahoe.

We officially moved our winter animals and operations to the new location on October 26. This transition has been years in development and would not have been possible without the tireless efforts and generous backing of our donors, volunteers, board, and the whole Tahoe community. With the partial completion of our new facilities, we have greatly increased our capacity and enhanced our ability to assist other wildlife rescues and sanctuaries in California and Nevada.

Along with the move, we have refreshed our logo and slogan, ramped up our social media team, and adjusted our staffing and policies. Follow us at and

After over 40 years of being the backbone and visionary of LTWC, Founding Animal Care Director, Cheryl Millham, resigned in June. Her legacy of caring for animals in need lives on through our new Animal Care Director, Denise Upton, a 20 year LTWC volunteer, and her assistant, Jenny Curtis. Denise and Jenny, along with our wonderful volunteers, continue to provide the excellent care that our animals so desperately need. Please wish Denise and Jenny luck in their new roles. And please wish Cheryl well as she enjoys her future. LTWC would not exist without her dedication and efforts.

With all this growth comes expanded needs. We have many more animal enclosures in need of routine maintenance. More staff, food, and medical supplies are needed to provide enhanced and expanded care to more injured and orphaned animals. We need more volunteers, increased security, and additional funds to finish the remaining six buildings, including the main rehabilitation center.

We need your help. As 2019 ends, please consider donating to Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care and help us continue to Rescue, Rehab and Release the animals and birds that need our care. Because we are a 501(c)(3) charity there are tax benefits for donating to our operations, programs and capital funds. We are incredibly grateful for your support.
