Phoenix came into human care in 2020 when he was brought to Sierra Wildlife as a first year bird only recently independent from his parents. After Sierra Wildlife determined he was non-releasable, he was transferred to Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care to join our ambassador team.
Phoenix is an excellent ambassador for Red-tailed Hawks, a common species across all of North America. He is an enthusiastic learner and eagerly leaps to the glove to go on walks outside and is very comfortable meeting new people. When in his aviary, Phoenix enjoys tearing up enrichment like newspaper balls and bird watching out his window.
