Our work is not possible without our Volunteers!

Volunteers are crucial to LTWC’s work, and the value of their time and dedication is immeasurable. They help feed and care for the wild animals staying with us, assist with animal transport and releases, pitch in with fundraisers and events, donate special skills and services, and keep our facility running.

LTWC Volunteers (2024 Sign-Ups Are Now Open!)

Each year, LTWC cares for hundreds of wild birds and mammals. Our dedicated animal care and operations teams, along with seasonal volunteers, provide the needed medical care, nourishment, and skill-building to ensure a patient’s successful return to the wild.

Volunteers Disclaimer: While we take every precaution possible when working with wildlife, there is always the risk of exposure to zoonotic disease. Many of the animals we take into care come severely injured. We do everything in our power to rehabilitate and release animals, sometimes, we need to relieve their suffering through humane euthanasia. Our mission is always to release animals; to do that, we must keep all animals wild throughout their stay with us. We have a strict hands-off policy. This is not an opportunity to play with baby animals.

Ways to Volunteer

Animal Care Volunteer

Animal Care volunteers help provide daily care to patients in our wildlife hospital.  Under the direct supervision of rehab staff, volunteers will prepare animal diets, sanitize and set up animal enclosures, wash dishes, wash & fold laundry, and follow all directions and safety protocols.

Wildlife Transportation Volunteer

The Wildlife Transportation team is active in transporting animals to and from LTWC. This volunteer role includes picking up injured and orphaned wildlife from all over the Tahoe basin, as well as transporting animals from the center to their release sites!

Wildlife Hotline Administrator

The Office Assistant helps keep our administrative operations running smoothly by assisting with animal intakes, answering phone calls from our wildlife hotline, sorting mail, and filing paperwork. Apply your organizational skills to a great cause.
