Animal Academy

All educational programming aligns with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and is designed to engage learners of all ages, from elementary school students through high school and even adults. Each program can be tailored to your group’s grade level or interest.

Off-Site ($300)

Each off site program includes a one hour interactive presentation followed by a 30 minute hands on activity. Programs feature real wildlife specimens on our biofact table such as feathers, skulls, and study skins of birds or mammal hides to enhance learning and engagement. Programs accommodate 5–30 participants. For larger groups, please contact our Community Programs Coordinator to create a customized program.

Sierra Nevada Ecosystems

This program explores the diverse ecosystems of the Sierra Nevada and the plants and animals that depend on them. Students learn how elevation, climate, and habitat shape wildlife communities and how human actions impact these interconnected systems.

Birds of Prey

Students discover the unique adaptations of raptors and their role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. This program highlights local species, food webs, and conservation challenges, with a focus on coexistence and wildlife protection.

Travel Reimbursement: For off-site programs, a $1 per mile round-trip travel fee applies. This fee helps cover staff travel and ensures we can continue providing high-quality, hands-on wildlife programs.

On-Site ($250)

Each on site program includes a one hour interactive presentation followed by a 30 minute hands on activity. Programs feature real wildlife specimens such as feathers, skulls, and study skins of birds or mammal hides to enhance learning and engagement. Programs accommodate 5–30 participants. For every 10 students, 1 adult chaperone is required, and chaperones do not count toward the 30-participant limit.

Add-Ons ($50)

Enhance your program with a guided encounter with one of our ambassador animals. Availability depends on the animal’s care and well-being. If the ambassador is unavailable or unwilling to participate, your add-on fee will be fully refunded. Only available for on-site presentations. (Duration: 15–30 minutes, depending on the needs and availability of the ambassador animal.)

Wild Explorer Pack – Guided Experience (funded by Tahoe Fund) ($400)

Each Wild Explorer experience is a guided outdoor adventure led by our Certified California Naturalist at LTWC. Participants meet at LTWC and explore local habitats using tools provided in the pack, including binoculars, magnifying glasses, compasses, and field maps. Packs are provided for use during the program only and are not included to take home. Participants observe local birds, examine plants up close, and discover hidden ecological details in their surroundings, fostering curiosity, wonder, and a lasting connection to nature.

Programs accommodate 25 participants plus 3 chaperones.

Special Requirements

Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended for all participants. Please ensure that shoes and clothing have not recently been worn around waterfowl or farm animals, or have been thoroughly cleaned prior to attending.

Disclaimers

No-shows and cancellations are considered non-refundable. Tickets may be transferred to another date if you are unable to attend. Groups that arrive more than 20 minutes late may be considered a no-show.

Financial Assistance

We believe that cost should never prevent students or community members from experiencing our hands-on wildlife programs. Financial assistance and scholarships may be available for schools and groups with our limited budget.

If your group would benefit from financial support, please contact our Community Programs Coordinator to discuss options and eligibility. Requests are handled confidentially.
